Nuradin Abdi, the man accused of plotting to blow up a central Ohio shopping mall is expected to plead GUILTY this afternoon.  He was scheduled to go on trial next week on a charge of aiding Al Qaeda.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Shelly Co. is being sued for environmental violations. One of the 27 plants involved is located in Lancaster. The Lancaster plant is accused of burning oil that contained lead above 100 ppm in October 2001.

Yellow KidIn October, Checker Book Publishing Group will be releasing R. F. Outcault’s “Yellow Kid” comics in book form. R. F. Outcault, who grew up in Lancaster, Ohio, wrote and drew the “Yellow Kid” comics from 1885 to 1902 for Pulitzer and Hearst newspapers. Yellow Kid is thought to be America’s first newspaper comic strip. He abandoned the Yellow Kid comics to do the Buster Brown comics.

On Sunday, 11:06pm, Justin Whatley allegedly entered Circle K at 907 East Main St. and demanded money. According to the clerk, the suspect crawled over the counter in an attempt to stab him. The clerk fled the store and called the police while at Walgreens on East Main St. Upon arrival, police searched the area and located the suspect at 824 E. Main St., hiding in a bedroom. Mr. Whatley was arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery.

UPDATE: Mr. Watley was charged with attempted murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and felonious assault.

The Columbus Dispatch reported a woman, 23, died Saturday in an two-car auto accident on Rt. 188, northeast of Lancaster.

Update:  A second woman died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at OSU Medical Center.  The woman was identified as Treasa M. Wright, 37, of Pleasantville.

It was reported by filmstew.com that feature film “I-59″ may be filmed in Groveport, Ohio in 2008. Olivia de Haviland has signed a letter of intent and discussions are going on with Drew Barrymore and Claire Danes.

The Columbus Dispatch reported flaws in the Ohio’s laws regarding residential camps. It seems that background checks are only required for day-camps, and NOT residential camps.
