I spoke to two nice ladies at the Lutheran Food Pantry (on E. Main, beside Leo’s Bar) who said that they would be delighted to take any fresh produce that we would want to donate. Fresh fruits and vegetables fly right off the shelves. The pantry is open Mon-Fri from noon to 3 PM, but someone is usually in the building between 11-11:30 AM and can accept your donation.
The food pantry is working very hard to fill its shelves because of the high summer demand for food. The parents of kids who usually get free breakfast and lunch at school struggle to feed them during the summer. They need donations of everything to stock their shelves. You can drop off non-perishable donations at Carnival at any time.
Olivedale will also be happy to take fresh produce. Donations might be used in the Meals on Wheels program, or they might be given to people who come in to Olivedale. Do note that not all seniors at Olivedale are low-income, so it’s possible that your zucchini might go home with someone who’s more affluent that you are. (My opinion: so what? At least it won’t go to waste!)
