I spoke to two nice ladies at the Lutheran Food Pantry (on E. Main, beside Leo’s Bar) who said that they would be delighted to take any fresh produce that we would want to donate. Fresh fruits and vegetables fly right off the shelves. The pantry is open Mon-Fri from noon to 3 PM, but someone is usually in the building between 11-11:30 AM and can accept your donation.

The food pantry is working very hard to fill its shelves because of the high summer demand for food. The parents of kids who usually get free breakfast and lunch at school struggle to feed them during the summer. They need donations of everything to stock their shelves. You can drop off non-perishable donations at Carnival at any time.

Olivedale will also be happy to take fresh produce. Donations might be used in the Meals on Wheels program, or they might be given to people who come in to Olivedale. Do note that not all seniors at Olivedale are low-income, so it’s possible that your zucchini might go home with someone who’s more affluent that you are. (My opinion: so what? At least it won’t go to waste!)

The Logan Daily News reports that a Lancaster resident and his business partner are looking into the possibility of buying the former Don Wood’s Automotive location in downtown Logan and opening an adult-only skill-games establishment.

A few days ago I posted an item at the top of this column for a payment program called Obopay.  It is a payment plan similar to Paypal.  It is a legit company backed by some very large banks.

My Obo CardWhen Paypal started up they gave new signups a few bucks.  Obopay is doing the same thing.  Just for signing up they will give you a $5.00 pre-paid MasterCard.  There is no further obligation.  MadMontie already got his card and spent it on beer.  The card shown here is my card that I just got today.

I’m really hoping you will take advantage of this “free money” offer.  Just click on the banner at the top of the page.

The Columbus Dispatch has an interesting article about the high cost of bringing ethanol jobs to Ohio including the E85, Inc plant that had been considered for Lancaster.

Got something you want to tell your elected official?

Up top in the banner you will notice a new menu item entitled “Let ‘em know”. I have put together a list of some of your government representatives. To contact them just click on the appropriate link. For city council reps I have set the link so that if you click on any particular ward you will be able to email that ward’s rep PLUS the three At-Large members all in one swell foop.

Are there more I should add? Email me at crabby@crabbyfatguy.com.

There have been a LOT of questions about the recent property revaluation. I found this site called Ohio Revaluation – it answers a lot of questions.

World Gold News reports that Lancaster’s own Samantha Swinehart tied for second place at the Nationwide Insurance Junior in Dublin, Ohio.
