Welfare Sushion September 22nd, 2013 at 9:04 am
I saw a sign in Kroger yesterday that caught my attention: “Sushi is EBT Eligible”. Really? I am going to give you money out of the taxes that I pay and you are buying sushi with it?
Every time there is a threat of a welfare cut you will read about poor families that are barely scraping by and can’t put food on the table. This anecdotal evidence of people needing help are in many instances true. On the other hand, however, you will seldom hear in the liberal press anecdotal evidence of welfare abuse. I know people that have made a career out of leaching off of our tax dollars. We, the taxpayers, provide free housing, medical, food, cell phones, refrigerators, air conditioners, and who knows what else.
Please don’t misunderstand me…if a person needs help because of some tragedy in their life then God bless you, let us help you. Lose a job? Get sick or injured? Death in the family? Ok, I want you to be helped to get back on your feet. However, if you are able-bodied you need to actually get back up on your feet and make your own way.
The idea of living off of welfare is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, I can give you anecdotal evidence that it does happen. Additionally the government should never provide so much that collecting welfare is preferable to working.
It is well past time to distinguish between those that need help and those that consider welfare a career choice.
