It is now being reported that the USPS is the latest Federal office to solicit bids for ammunition.  This on the heals to many other departments stocking up:

  • NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) – 46,000 rounds – mostly hollow point
  • Department of Homeland Security – now has a stockpile of 1.6BILLION rounds.  Currently in the process of buying 20 million more rounds.  I guess five rounds for every man, woman, and child in the U.S. is not enough.
  • Department of Agriculture – 320,000 rounds
  • FBI – 100,000,000 rounds
  • Social Security – 174,000 rounds – expecting a senior citizen rebellion I guess.

Why does DHS having 1,600,000,000 rounds of ammo NOT make me feel more secure?  We have been using approximately 70million rounds in Iraq per year.  If DHS used that many a year it would take almost 23 years to use them up.  The DHS has also been buying bullet proof checkpoint booths.
