Just in case you’ve forgotten, during the 2006 campaign, Ted Strickland set education as his “number 1 priority”.  He said that if he did not fix Ohio’s School Funding that he would consider him a failure.  Is it fixed?

It’s not fixed but the last time I checked he was still Governor and still had time left in his term to fix this.

    Thanks for the reminder though.

I agree. The former Gov, our past and currunt state legislature had years to manage this and did NOTHING. Be patient

  3. crabby says:

It wasn’t their highest priority though.

I guarantee that everyone of them spouted off about it on the campaign trail. I know for a fact that our very own State Senator vowed to fix it when he was running for the House… then the House again… Then the Senate….

Ten years ago the Ohio Supreme Court ruled Ohio’s school funding system “unconstitutional.” I think we need to hold every House member and State Senator from that time period’s feet to the fire before we start harassing Governor Strickland.

Give him a chance, Crabby. It’s just like I told some guys that I work with; You have to work really hard not to like Ted. He’s the hardest working, most results producing politician that I have ever met. He makes the word ‘politician’ not seem so dirty.

    Really? What has he done?

Well, I assume that you are asking about the good Governor. If so…
He’s a six term member of the US House of Representatives.
He won the Governor’s chair in ’06 with better than 60% of the vote in Red-as-can-be Ohio.
Strickland received endorsements from over 340 prominent GOP members.
In 2007, Strickland’s proposed $52 billion budget for the State of Ohio passed unanimously; The first unanimously passed in 84 years.
Recently froze all state workers pay increases possible (those without contracts), including his own (2.8% for F.Y 2008), to keep state costs down (3.5% for 3,400 state workers).
Anyone else have a record like that after one year?

But most importantly, I have personally been helped by the man when he was my Congressman (6th District)

In 1997, I had just returned from the USMC and was enrolled in college. I had submitted the forms for the Montgomery G.I Bill and had received nothing within the first quarter. My Grandfather, who was very involved in the VFW, wrote then Congressman Strickland and told his office of my problem. Within thirty days I had two checks; one was back pay for the time owed and the other was regular payments that I received through out. Mr Strickland wasted no time in taking care of this veterans needs and fulfilling a government contract.

Thats really where my affinity for the man comes from. We can talk about who was a crummy President or who is a do-nothing Congressman all day, but the real litmus test is who comes through with the accomplishments. I can say with personal knowledge, that Ted Strickland does his job, because I have seen it and its effects. The most impressive thing that I see of him is his ability to cross party lines. It’s terrible that today bipartisanship is such a big deal. They should all do that. Ohio suffers tonight from one party being in complete power for too long. And I don’t care which party it is; It’s been too long. Ted has a way of bringing people together and that’s exactly what our beaten-down state needs.
